Community

As a not-for-profit community based organisation, Ramsgate RSL Memorial Club strongly believes that community support is one of our most important business responsibilities.

To that end, the club supports many sporting organisations as well as community groups and charities both directly within our local area, as well as those who support our wider community.

August 6 2015

The majority of the Ramsgate RSL Bowling Club team travelled to Nelson Bay on Friday 30th July in various cars and stayed at The Landmark Resort which adjoins the Nelson Bay Bowling
Club.

They had beautiful weather for all three days and with really fast greens it was a test for all.

The teams were:
Ned Parker, James King, Ray King and skipper Graham Conen.
Ron Brock, Scott Holden, Barry Jones and skipper Rob McNab.
Marcus Kuskey, Tom Pearce, Bruce Nottage and skipper Ian Tait-Kerr.
Reserves: Greg Kelly, Kevin Swanson and Ken Harrison.
Manager: Joan King.

Saturday saw them get off to a good start by beating Halekuloni 57-54 in a tight match.
That afternoon they were not so fortunate, going down 43-61 to Dapto Citizens who were the eventual winners of the top prize. Dapto had one particularly strong individual team of four led by young Cayne Ford and this was the difference. No matter what our team did they bettered it. Our other two individual teams performed well with a win and a draw.

On Sunday morning we played Adamstown and won 62-56, so finishing runners up in our section ……. so near, yet so far.

The Rams team ended up coming 5th overall out of a total of 16 Club teams competing on the weekend.

All of our players performed well but a special mention for Ray King, Bruce Nottage and Rob McNab who seemed to be able to bowl that special delivery just when it was needed.

It was great to see James King playing so well and his enthusiasm was infectious.

Special mention for all of our supporters; some stayed for the full period while others drove up for the day.

In closing we must thank the Memorial Club for the support we received, both
financial and vocal.

Vacation Care – connecting with our community

Over the past few months we have been very busy here at the club organising vacation care for a local community centre.  We were fortunate enough to have engaged with Kingsgrove Community Centre which brought children from both Hurstville and Kingsgrove over the past 2 weeks.  Last week saw in excess of 60 children from Hurstville and today we had 40 children join us from Kingsgrove.  We were delighted to be able to offer them a day of safe, supervised pizza making class in our Olive Leaf Italian Pizzeria where they were encouraged to socialise, learn new skills and relax with imaginative play. We additionally all played some fun question and answer games where the children loved being able to speak on our microphone. Below are some snapshots from the day which I will be adding to so keep an eye out for more to come. I will also have these up on our internal screens too!

If you are interested in vacation care for your child or you would like to engage with the club to look at options for your community centre to be involved with the super fun events please contact our Events Coordinator Evonne.Bosnich@ramsgatersl.com.au or 02 9504 8000.
